Are you craving some Mexican food? Taco salad is where it’s at! You get all the flavors – but with a more health-conscious twist.

We ditch the actual taco shell or tortilla for all the same ingredients topped over healthy and yummy spinach.

We guarantee that the whole family will love this one! Even the kids won’t complain.

Not only that, but this recipe – like all our recipes – follow the Team Duwe Fitness Nutritional Guidelines. This means you know that you’re feeding your body right.

We’ve got some good fats with lean ground turkey combined with complex carbs, such as beans and onions. Feel free to adjust the recipe to your palate by adding or taking away your favorite vegetables or foods. Include this as one of your three meals today!

And remember, keeping it simple is always easier when it comes to your diet. Overcomplicating things leads to hours slaving away in the kitchen and confusion about what’s healthy and what’s not.

Now let’s get down to it! What does this taco salad recipe entail?

Ingredients:

1/2 lb ground turkey
1 can chili beans
1 can black beans
Garlic
2-3 jalapenos

Taco seasoning:
1/4 cup onions
1/4 cup green and red peppers

Instructions:

Brown the meat in a skillet. Add minced garlic, Jalapeños, green and red peppers, and taco seasoning. Cook until the meat is brown and the veggies are soft. Add beans. Cook until the beans are hot. Top over fresh spinach. Add a dollop of cottage cheese and salsa. Then, enjoy!

Note: You can omit the meat to make a veggie taco salad. However, it’s important to make sure your getting your protein from other sources.

You may also choose to add frozen spinach and cook it. You could then eat the taco as a kind of stew. This is an option if you don’t want to eat it over fresh spinach.
